Top Fifty Public California High Schools - 1998

The following table lists the top 50 California high schools in 1998. The top 50 table shows the school's combined SAT score, AP 3 Rate, Percentile ranking, % change from last year, the average AP score and the school's ranking since 1992. The table also shows schools that fell off last year's top 50 list.

Schools new to the top 50 are:

• Etna Junior Senior High
• Mira Loma High
• Analy High
• Northgate High
• Laguna Beach High
• Corona Del Mar High
• Capistrano Valley High
• Berkeley High (Welcome back Yellowjackets! It's my alma mater folks...)
• Oak Ridge High
• Cerritos High ( Cerritos High is in the same district as Whitney)
• Willits High

Harder to make the Top 50

Making the Top Fifty List this year was more difficult than in years past. The top of the list shifted up as 11 schools made the A list as opposed to 8 in 1997. A list schools are schools that score within 10% of the top score in California. There was a 7 way tie at the bottom of the list. The cutoff was .6% higher in 1998.

In 1999, the rankings will shift to accomodate the Average AP scores. Instead of only considering the Sat score, the 1999 ranking will factor in the average AP score as well.
